Thanks Stacy for your post! Your question about how to cultivate discernment in these decisions is spot on. I think many leaders may not ask “how can I help” because they may cringe at hearing an answer where the other person asks for something beyond what is reasonable for a leader to give. Perhaps it might serve to first reflect internally on the question “how can I best help this person to help themselves?”. Perhaps the outward version of this question then becomes “how can I help you move forward?” which is more about empowering than doing for. Curious to hear others’ thoughts.
